More than 400 tonnes of textile waste ended up in Hong Kong’s landfills every day in 2023,  according to the Environmental Protection Department figures. That’s nearly 1,900 pieces of clothing thrown away every minute.

Despite the city’s more than 200 donation bins, fewer than 14% of textiles were recycled last year—over 86% still went to landfills.
